In Past Tense
I place bets on steps I cannot see
I don’t remember how to get from A to Z
And even if I could, even if I could
It still feels like a gamble
And even if I could, even if I could
I won’t absorb it for next time
You separate all you had before
It looks nice up against my big mess, tangled on the floor
I panic, I panic,
And it keeps me up on the fence
I panic, I panic
When I think of you in past tense
I don’t wanna think of you in past tense
And I rely on making my roots grow deep
I can’t focus on any other parts of the tree
And even if I could, even if I could
I’m planted under a power line
And even if I could, even if I could
Another storm cut me down to size
You wipe away what you had before
I scrub signs you’re mine till they fade,
Then I gotta beg for more

In a time before there were many female-fronted bands there was Cruiserweight from Austin, Texas. Their singer, Stella Maxwell, was dynamite live. Unfortunately, this defunct band's best album "Sweet Weaponry" isn't available here and was never on vinyl in the CD-only era, circa 2005, but you can find a used CD on ebay perhaps for pennies.
